Autumn finally falls on us

First off! Some events news! (This is an entry with lots of exclamation marks!)

I'm going to be in Toronto this weekend, Sept 19-20, for the Queen Street West Art Crawl. I'm still working out the arrangements but I'm also hoping to make it to Word on the Street in Toronto the following weekend on Sept 27. I'm not sure yet if I'll be there in person, but do check out Georgia Webber and the Ganglion folks who are doing a panel from1-2pm at the Comics and Graphic Novel's tent, and perhaps pick up a copy of the zine! I will be posting my contribution online shortly after it's released :)

A little farther off on the horizon is Canzine, also in Toronto, November 1. Arabesque is debuting then, so please look out for us, and I hope to have some new material as well :)

I also want to link back to Emily Rose Farrauto's website. Emily is a designer here in Montreal and we'll be collaborating together soon on some fashion illustration. Her work hybridizes modern vintage, and she has an extensive background in costuming. Click on the following photo to check out her blog:

With all that news out of the way I can finally post some art. At risk of really outing myself as a huge nerd, I drew some fanart for my favourite japanese boy band ARASHI's 10-year anniversary. They've been a weird but encouraging obsession of mine for a while now (unique in its kind?) and have for good reasons risen to popularity as of late which has made me very happy. Ten years is a really long time~~~ What amazes me on top of just they're staying power is that they've all set themselves up to have careers after the boyband thing fizzles out. They always seem like they're having fun regardless! Anyways, enjoy!

This last image is kind of a bonus! I actually have printable versions of this and another older image so people can print them out on paper and cut around them to use as bookmarks. It's something we started making a long time ago for anime conventions, and the format has since gotten really popular, hahaha. Congratulations to ARASHI for such a long time together!

Slow summer progress...

Summer's supposed to be winding down, though it's still been deathly hot here. I've been hanging out a lot with my family for the past couple of weeks, but with the start of school imminent, they've all gone home and I can start to get more work done (... if I can beat this heat...!).

I am participating in a couple zines that are going to be released during fall conventions, GangLion and Arabesque. I was asked by Saicoink to illustrate an article on how to tie scarves, and here are my initial sketches:

There's tweaking to be done, and I think when I get the green light to ink them, I'm going to try a lighter, more delicate line on it, rather than my usual brushpen. The zine is black and white, but if they turn out good maybe I will colour them...?

I've also been enamoured with long dangly earrings lately, so I've been making a lot:

I need to take better pictures of them and then I can add them to my store or my Etsy account, which is one of the last things to be completed on the site. I've also updated the Bio page slightly, for anyone that wants to see. I also want to translate some bits into French.

It's also about that time of the year to decide which Fall events I am going to. GangLion is going to Word on the Street Toronto so I may stop by. I've sent in my application for Canzine and I'm hoping Expozine will happen again this year also. I'd like to rustle up some table space for SPX, if that's possible----! Does anyone have room for a few girly comics? :D
